The Horrible Crowes, the new side project from Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon, are to release their debut album ‘Elsie’ on 5th September. The group were formed following the release of The Gaslight Anthem’s third album - last year’s ‘American Slang’ - by Fallon and his friend and guitar tech Ian Perkins.

Organisers of next month’s Cloud 9 Festival in Cheshire recently took to the streets of Manchester to film their own version of a recent viral video in preparation for the August event. In the original video, which has received over a million views on YouTube and has already spawned several interpretations from around the globe, a filmmaker approaches people in New York City to find out what songs they’re listening to. Watch the new Cloud 9 version of the film below.

Sheffield-based New Wave trio The Human League are to release their new single ‘Sky’ on 25th July. The track is the latest to be taken from their recently-released ninth album ‘Credo’, following ‘Night People’ and ‘Never Let Me Go’. ‘Credo’ is the first Human League album in ten years - the last being 2001’s ‘Secrets’. It was released through the Wall of Sound record label and entered the UK Albums Chart at Number 44. Listen to the Plastic Plates remix of ‘Sky’ below.

Newcastle-based post-punkers Maximo Park have announced a charity gig in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust in their home town. The intimate performance will take place at Newcastle-upon-Tyne’s Cluny venue tomorrow night (Thursday 21st July) – tickets will be available on the door from midday at a price of £6.

Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright has released a new video featuring a collaboration with his father Loudon Wainwright III. The song, which can be viewed below, is a cover of ‘Down Where the Drunkards Roll’ by former Fairport Convention guitarist Richard Thompson. It was taken from Thompson’s second solo album ‘I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight’, which was released in 1974 as a collaborative effort with his then wife Linda Thompson. Richard and Linda Thompson are the parents of folk singer Teddy Thompson, who has also previously collaborated with Rufus Wainwright.
